History

Established in 1957.

In 1947 a group of miners were looking for a place to gather & drink after work which didn’t close at the 6pm curfew. They settled upon a site in the bush in Pendlebury Road Cardiff. This became known as The Black Stump, which was a keg on a tree stump. In 1949 The Black Stump disbanded as the gatherings were becoming too popular & were no longer inconspicuous.

From the late 1940’s the miners of Cardiff worked hard to form a registered club. In 1952 their efforts were realised and they joined up the first members. Cardiff District Workers’ Club obtained it’s registered clubs licence on 14 May 1957.

On 15 July 2001 the Club Nova Panthers amalgamation was approved by the members and in 2002 Panthers amalgamated with Club Nova Newcastle & Cardiff. The clubs were then known as Club Nova Panthers Newcastle & Cardiff respectfully, until 29 September 2003 when the club’s names were changed to Newcastle & Cardiff Panthers.
