A lifetime of being told«Don’t touch that!» and«you break it, you bought it» made my visit to Camperdown Mews fraught with tension. The exterior of the store, with clowns painted on the side, doesn’t exactly hint at what this is, which is an antiques store. Upon entering, a lady offered us a mimosa and we proceeded to browse. There is an abundance of antique furniture and paintings on the premises, along with one statue priced at $ 125k. I don’t mind belying my lack of big time money experience by wondering how you even go about purchasing that. My mind just jumps to the tiny scene in Arrested Development where G.O.B. buys a boat, surrounded on either side by salespeople and looking kind of meek as he signs the paperwork, well aware that he shouldn’t be doing this. For those of us out of that price range, there are also a handful of vintage records, eyewear, silverwear(including flasks and cigar holders) and a few nick nacks here and there. And of course, vintage jewellery. An interesting curio visit.
