Clothes, accessories and the odd book or picture are the goods that Tiny Dancer on Sydney Rd has to offer. It’s essentially a pretty typical dress shop offering the latest north side fashions and kooky trends, such as skull or owl centred jewellery. There’s not too much stock so it’s easy enough to browse, and during the afternoon the space is lit with a pleasant natural light. There’re some pretty fun sunglasses in stock that’ll help bring out the trendy hipster in customers, and a relatively good range of brightly coloured and textured shoes for the fashion forward down the back. There’s also the odd book on art or celebrity littered amongst the accessories. The dressing rooms are on the small side and have curtains instead of doors, but there’s enough fabric that you don’t feel exposed. That said, sizes are on the smaller side and at least one of the dresses in stock at the time of my visit had a higher mark-up in this store than its doppelgänger in another local shop. Prices are within the standard boutique range for the area, depending on how basic the item in question is. On the whole, it’s generally worth a look in if you’re nearby.

So I drunkenly decided one night it would make sense to walk(yes WALK) from Fitzroy to Brunswick instead of forking out for a cab because I’m cheap. As I’m dreamily stumbling along listening to my iPod thinking of getting a kebab I pass Tiny Dancer. This gorgeous mustard pleated floor length skirt grabbed the attention of my inebriated eyes and drew me towards to window as I gazed at it longingly wishing Tiny Dancer were open at 3am. So I went back the next day. And I bought that skirt. And I’ve been going back ever since. They’re such a gorgeous boutique with some orignal pieces and great brands as well as jewellery and other accessory pieces. Definitely check it out, it’s a nice change from all the op shops that line Sydney road.

Tiny Dancer is a great little store that was my go-to while I was living in Brunswick. A pleasant change from the second hand clothing and other indie fare in the area, you can find both special and basic pieces here at really reasonable prices. From what I could see, nothing much passed the $ 100 mark which is always refreshing considering boutique prices in general. Tiny Dancer stocks a number of brands such as Soles, Chip Chop, Neuw and Something Else. Expect to find faded denim in an array of colours, quirky home-wares and jewelry, design books and soft leather boots. As well as this it also has its own eponymous label that features sheer pleating, cosy duffle coats and structured knits. A great new find and one of my favourite clothing stores in Melbourne, Tiny Dancer is always worth a visit.
