Like curry? Like cheap curry that is ready straight away? Then you’ll probably like Rajee’s Instant Indian. The appeal is pretty much summed up in the title. Most of the basics are present and accounted for, ready to be spooned into a take away container or house crockery. The spicy varieties are usually genuinely spicy, and the mild ones genuinely mild. However, the precise taste and quality does vary ever so slightly, but for $ 6.00/$ 7.50(depending on whether it’s meat or vegetarian) a dish(including rice! Up to two flavours for the same price! Rhyming is fun) this is to be expected. Naan bread is also on offer. The service is efficient and friendly, with the man himself willing to share a boisterous joke or two with his customers. Yet the thing that’s really special about Rajee’s is the samosas, made with love and cooked to perfection. Dig in.

Sometimes you just get that hankerin’ for Indian that’s not cooked while you wait but already soakin’ in its own juices in a stainless steel bay marie. You know you do, don’t even bother to deny it. Rajee’s is the place to go for such hankerin’s and their spicy delights are sure to quell that yearning for a good few weeks. The added advantage of Rajee’s is position. Right on the Sydney Road tram route, the place sits opposite the Edinburgh Castle Hotel. What goes better with curry than beer? Eh? Eh? Nothing, that’s what. A hot tip is to ask them to cook you a naan up fresh. They’ll kick and moan a bit, but any curry lover knows it makes all the difference.

Another case of trusting the locals, this modern Indian eatery can be found with a hand full of eaters on most occasions. While not a home-cooked variety — the buffet style servery is constantly refilled — the flavours are full and the serving size is great. Well priced with lunch and dinner deals, and takeaway available, this is great place start your evening. Be warned, the magic ends by eleven, so 2am early morning Indian is out of the question.
