Reward-​based dog training. We offer humane, sensible and practical pet dog training classes in an indoor venue in Richmond, as well as one-​on-​one consultations in your own home.

We provide solutions to behaviour problems. We have 20 years of experience and highly skilled instructors. We provide high quality informative written materials with your classes. Our principal, Kaye Hargreaves, is the author of many books on training and behaviour.

We are Leading Victoria in offering the exciting new dog sport of Treibball, where your dog learns to herd large gym balls. It’s a lot of fun and provides stimulation for those urban working dogs who don’t have sheep to herd.

We can also offer recreational and advanced activities if you want to go on beyond the basics.

If you are an instructor or professional dog trainer, we offer an Instructor Training and Mentoring Program, professional development programs as well as seminars and workshops for clubs and advanced handlers.

History

Established in 1989.

I started Wagging School offering individual lessons in your own home in 1989. I moved to full time in 1993, and was offering Puppy Classes, small group practical pet dog training classes and individual lessons. I was the first to train in an indoor venue. I also pioneered positive, reward-​based training methods. I have trained dogs for film and television, but I am particularly known for being able to settle down unruly, difficult dogs without resorting to punishment. I was a past president of the Positive Animal Trainers Society (PATS) and I have given many seminars on training and behaviour. I am a member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT). I write prolifically on training and behaviour and I am now passing on my knowledge to more trainers and instructors.

I have always loved dogs, and I used to hang out with the local pack in my childhood. I have an intuitive rapport with dogs, and people say I am extremely calm around them. They respond well to this. I started just training my own dogs, but people would ask me to give lessons, so I did. Pretty soon this developed into a successful business. I went into dog training full-​time just after completing my Law degree, which was a career move that surprised some people. I have had eight dogs of my own over the years. Four were German Shepherds and four were mixed breed mutts. All but two were rescues. My current dog is Chance, a 10 year old German Shepherd.
