With all the hype about über ride share app, I thought I would try it out. It is basically hitch hiking for money. Anyway it was a busy Friday night at about 1230 am(ok Saturday morning), so I went through the rigmarole of downloading and installing the ap, cancelling my antivirus advices about intrusive permissions and free access to credit card and called up a car. At first the ap kept advising no car available, then after about 15 minutes it found one that was going to take 12 mins to pick up. Actually took about 20 but ok,. then the fare was actually 2 times what the estimate had been when no car was available. I talked to the driver who explained that when it got busy, the price goes up. oooh So, I said this is like an über taxi? NO, he just picks up people in his own private car and über do all the money including a 20% comission for them. Hmmm, so you do have like special commercial insurance and registration so we are all covered properley if something goes wrong. No, Über says we just have to have private insurance. Anyway the whole thing seems dodgy as, and my research since has proved that this is very cntroversial in most of the US and downright illegal in Australia. I have since done a lot of research and have uninstalled the app and watch on as this car wreck unfolds, vowing to never use this service until I hear from Qld government that it is legit.
