Yes our experience at this establishment you don’t get what you order!!! What we thought we ordered: Had another look at the menu description– Grilled Calamari Salad… cabbage salad with Spanish onion, tomato, cucumber, baby spinach and a Thai inspired dressing. Ha what we got should have read was more like… Coleslaw with guess where the tomato and cucumbers are, bulked up with too much spinach, boiled calamari in aioli… Pretty disgraceful… Such poor quality food!!! Well I will tell you we refused to pay for it. Nor did we eat more than a couple of mouthfuls it was tasteless have you ever eaten boiled calamari??? Yuk! Double yuk!

Really poor. Took 45 minutes for our lunch order to arrive with no explanation. Half of what finally did arrive had obviously been sitting for a while, the other half was clearly rushed. No apology or acknowledgment of the situation. It wasn’t even busy — maybe 8 tables in the entire place!

My colleagues and I ordered Groove Train while working late nearby and our meals were a bit hit and miss. I had the lamb and cous cous salad and while the lamb was tasty, the cous cous and salad part was a bit disappointing. This was a sentiment echoed by a couple of others who got risottos/cous cous etc. But everyone who had the pizzas agreed it was awesome. So while not amazing, but definitely decent. And to be fair, they handled a take-away order for 20 people very well.

Had a team breakfast here before work the other morning. The food was really good. I had a bacon, egg, avacado, tomato and lettuce burger with a hash brown. It had a little thing of tomato salsa with it as well. The service was pretty great and the coffee was delicious! It’s right down on the water too which is nice. The pricing is pretty on par with what you would pay in other CBD restaurants for breakfast. I’d love to come back and try some of the other items on the menu.

Lovely staff but overpriced, average breakfasts that you could get anywhere else. Not horrible but there are so many profoundly better breakfast experiences in Bris.

Groove Train is certainly a pretty place. The view’s great(the Brisbane river — you can even imagine the water is blue!) and it makes me wonder why we don’t have a slew of similar cafes, restaurants and bars along the water.(Well, we have Fridays et al., but they’re not exactly ON the river but rising in buildings above it.) Very funky on the inside, Groove Train specialises in hip modern food and retro surroundings. Co-owner Peter Wolf has infused a very cool vibe throughout — there are even old video arcade games, like Pacman and Space Invaders.(I don’t have the high score… yet.) There are also old paintings and a range of random objects to decorate the place, including a very black shiny motorcycle. I stopped in here most recently for coffee, and I admit it was ridiculously good. So it should be, given the owner is a coffee lover himself. I’m glad Groove Train survived the January 2011 floods. The flood cost Groove Train $ 1.5 million in damages and had staff wading around in water up to their waist. However, Groove Train remains as funky as ever. The floods have seen a slight renovation, which the owners had planned on doing before the floods anyway. Though there are a few Groove Train restaurants, the Brisbane Eagle Street one is by far the most famous and in my opinion the most attractive in terms of vibe, food, and importantly — coffee.

I think what initially drew me to the this place was the cool name. Groove train sounds quite funky in my opinion. I think the major thing they have going is the location and it has a really good view of the Brisbane river. I first went when i was walking down the river on a Sunday and decided it looked like a cool place to have lunch. The food was quite good and even though we just got a pizza to share between two people it was enough. I did think it was a bit pricy because for two people a pizza and bottle of wine cost 60 dollars. This was annoying because down the river a pizza and glass of wine was only 7 dollars. Other than the price no complaints about the groove train and for a meal with a view u cant go wrong.

I love to come here with a group of people before heading out for a night in the city. They have great cocktails and a selection of entrée dishes that make great tapas as well as a fantastic riverside view of the Storey Bridge. The menu is an Australian/Mediterranean/Italian fusion but the best dishes are the entrees, which as an added bonus are all under $ 20 and great to share. Splitting an Asian Platter, a 3 Dip Platter(so much better than it sounds), Funky Nachos and a Garlic Pizza usually feeds 6 – 8 girls whenever I come and the leftover money goes splendidly towards more cocktails! The service isn’t very friendly but it’s quick and after dinner there are some old school video game tables to hang out at and have a few more drinks.
