The Cheeky Bean

Service was fast and super speedy. The coffee was good, not remarkable, but certainly enough to satisfy. Seating is limited.

The Cheeky Bean is a ‘hole in the wall’ style establishment making good use of limited space and providing quality coffee on Montague Rd, South Brisbane. I like that they are open early at 6am M-​F when so many others in 4101 are only cranking their coffee machines up at 7am! I have not ascertained their bean of choice as yet but the coffee is nice and full bodied although a little too hot for my liking, particularly as they use single wall cups. Nevertheless, the service is quick and friendly and seriously good value at $ 3 for a small (8oz/​227ml) & $ 3.50 for a large (12oz/​341ml). On top of that stunning value their loyalty card offers you every 10^th cup free! Limited food offerings include muffins and cake slices. Outdoor seating and daily papers if you want to linger. Hmmmm, we aren’t addicted, we aren’t I tells ya! We headed out on this beautiful sun shiny day with high hopes and lofty aspirations looking for just one hit. As is so true in life there was no ominous music playing in the background we skipped blissfully by this little hole-​in-​the-​wall.
Upon having a less then stellar coffee at another establishment we decided to give the Cheeky Bean a go on our way back to the office.
This isn’t a full review, its our impression brought about by an inability to scratch our coffee itch. The Cheeky Bean has that great West End alternative vibe, the staff seem passionate about their brew and the coffee is mellow and full of flavour. Our coffee was a take-​away so in the interests of science we will need to return at some point to try this lovely coffee without the cardboard cup. Overall we would say great taste without the punch.
