Delicious, rich, creamy; what more do you want? With an extensive choice of gelato flavours you can’t go wrong coming here for dessert or a quick snack. There are a lot of choices(waffle cones, waffle baskets and take away cartons) and it is expectedly expensive but the quality is worth $ 4.95 a scoop. There was a sign for $ 10 minimum eftpos but the staff were kind enough to disregard when my purchase came under that. I chose crème brûlée which was great and can’t wait to try the other flavours.

Okay, I know a lot of people like Movenpick(I do love the umlaut over the O) and that they have some great flavours of ice cream(+1 point for Pistachio), it’s just that I’m not its biggest fan. I guess I’m mainly hung up on the price. It is just like other gourmet ice cream places where it is a little more expensive but it should be worth it. I just fear that this place is selling the idea of gourmet more than the ice cream. That’s not to say that this place is bad. Not at all. I do enjoy it. Maybe I’m just too cynical(or cheap) when it comes to gourmet/specialty places.

Ever had too much of a good thing? I don’t think this applies to ice cream, or not to really good ice cream anyway. Movenpick have seriously good ice cream. The perfect treat after a movie at Portside or anytime really. The flavours are so incredibly good. I have not tried everything yet but I am yet to have one that wasn’t superb. So creamy and rich in flavour, I especially like any form of chocolate, the white chocolate is a favourite with my friends. I have tried the sorbet too. Although I am not a huge sorbet fan, a mango one I had was pretty good. I do prefer the real thing if given a choice. the Swiss sure know how to do ice cream.

There’s no Swiss style neutrality when it comes to your opinion of Mövenpick — you either like it or… love it! Tucked away among the boutiques and eateries of The Barracks(the perfect complex for ice-cream so ritzy it’s treated as an art form), it would make a good end to a dinner and movie date with someone special. If you had failed to impress your beau by the final credits, use the promise of Brisbane’s best ice cream as the ace up your sleeve. Their delicious flavours like panna cotta, pistachio, blackcurrant cream come in cones, tubs or take home packs(for if the date’s going really well ;). Calorie watchers might want to try the lemon and lime sorbet.

Mövenpick. Swiss ice cream hey? Look, I consider it a fact of life that if something is Swiss, it’s all good. That’s totally wrong about Mövenpick though because Mövenpick ice cream isn’t just good, it’s amazing. I’m talking sex-in-your-mouth amazing(sorry for the profanity but there is no better way to describe it). Taking a bite of Mövenpick ice cream is like taking a bite of the flavour it actually represents, but a hundred times more tasty. Nutella? It’s Nutella in the form of cold, gooey, ridiculously tasty goodness. Don’t even get me started on the white chocolate. It had real white chocolate pieces delicately arranged in the ice cream. Once I had it I couldn’t stop craving it, it’s that good. Mövenpick wins award after award for its amazing recipes and flavours and it literally treats its ice cream like a high-end fashion label; something to cherish and advertise and treat like the art form it is. They don’t call their ice cream range just flavours, they call it a collection. A collection! They make it sound like it’s limited edition. Which, um, it is. They have limited edition flavour ranges that make an appearance twice a year and, AND, they give their collections whimsical, out-of-this-world names like ‘The Gastronomic Collection” with what they dub refreshing dream-flavours, sweet dream-flavours, surprising dream-flavours, and endless dream-flavours. The names alone cast a magical spell. Their website is amazing and is set out like a couture fashion website so you can browse flavours at will and by the ‘collection, darling’. When you’re at Barracks seeing a movie or getting dinner, please, please go in and try Mövenpick. Get a cone or a tub, I don’t care; just make sure you try it and fall in love with it like I have. When you think of Mövenpick ice cream, think boutique ice cream; think designer ice cream; think how you won’t be able to sleep until you’ve sampled its creamy splendour. Seriously, I’m Mövenpick-addicted. You can also find Mövenpick here:
