I don’t think I’ve ever had a better bbq chook than one from Red Lea. In fact, once you’ve gone Lea’s, it’s hard to go back. Big on size, tasty as skin, and moist white flesh… the way a bbq chook should be. None of those undercooked, slimy, undersized birds you see in super markets these days. The perfect hangover cure are the fatty as devil wings — perfectly crumbed with the ultimate crispy crunch. The chicken breast is an easy lunch option to partner with a quick salad, and there’s a range of Asian inspired chicken dishes to feast on. The chicken kievs are almost free and they are the goods… my only dig is that they don’t manage to retain the butter filling. By the time you hoe in, there’s no molten garlicy butter surprise awaiting you in the middle, which is a little like unwrapping a present to find nothing inside. The chicken mignons look finger lickin’ good but the prawn garnish feels a tad out of place. Service is fast and friendly but they seem to close here pretty early so get here by 5pm or face certain disappointment if not starvation.
