Speakeasy Bar

Speakeasy is super cosy and atmospheric — one of my favorites for date night. Highlight for Speakeasy is the service. You can’t really compete with the quality of service at a restaurant like this due to how tiny it is — it feels like you’re having dinner at an old friend’s place. I feel like I could sit back and chill for hours with a good glass of red at Speakeasy — there’s never pressure to hurry up to clear out for the next table which is fantastic considering how often that happens in Bondi Beach and also how many people can fit into Speakeasy.
Food is good. The share plates have been consistently tasty, and there is a good selection of wines. A tad on the pricey side considering size of meals, but otherwise no real negatives.
I would definitely recommend Speakeasy.

Hubby and I shared our 18 year anniversary at Speak Easy last night and we had the best time. This place is cosy and the ambience is amazing. We love the décor and the excellent service. The food was divine and the dessert was very rich and moreish! Am definitely going back for more! Thank you for a lovely night and a wonderful experience!

Quaint, cool and über moody is this out of the way teeny Bondi wine bar. Small plates complement the small bar setting… especially because it’s the kind of place you tend to want to linger in forever once you get started. Staff really know their stuff and are well equipped to guide your dining and drinking decisions. Kick start the day the Speakeasy way with Barcelona eggs — shallow baked with house cured salmon, roast potato, ricotta, capers, Spansh onion and spinach $ 15; or Shakshouka eggs — shallow baked with spinach, tomato, coriander and yoghurt $ 13.50. If you’re on my watch, you’re more likely to hit this place at wine o’clock. Again, let the waiter be your guide. Grilled haloumi with tomato, preserved lemon, sumac and mint $ 14.50 is an exotic citrus twist on a small plates staple. Vegos (and this carnivore) will love the vegetarian plate with olives, roast beetroot dip, hummus, crispy new potato, tomato + dukkah salad + goats cheese $ 18.50. You can’t really go wrong here. Just don’t make my mistake. Leave the car at home, so you can enjoy another glass of red or three and savour the aromas coming from the kitchen… and the moreish Speakeasy vibe.

I feel charmed to have found such a darling little bar in the backstreets of Bondi Beach. Having strong associations between Bondi and douche-​bageries such as Ravesis, this tiny little establishment helped instill some good in my damaged perspective.
I stopped into Speakeasy around 5:30 on a Thursday afternoon and found the place empty. With velvet covered couches, dark wooden desks, and oldtime décor including a vase of peacock feathers and a rotary phone, I was filled with instant ease. That and the ocean breeze blew in and out so freely you’d think you were on Campbell Parade (minus the crowds).
I ordered a glass of their first listed Pinot Noir, Six Foot Six. The menu described the wine as «light and a little fruity.» I won’t beg to differ. It was drinkable to the point of slurpable and went down effortlessly for a red on a warm afternoon. I ordered a dish of mixed olives to accompany which was a good choice. As the late afternoon grew later, the place filled up a bit, but the energy stayed easy and carefree. The waitress might have played a part in this as well. She breezed around with great comfort, occasionally sitting with the guests and making informed wine recommendations.
Speakeasy is definitely my kind of place. And I’m so glad it’s in Bondi Beach because I needed my narrow-​minded perspective to be expanded. And I can now speak easy, because expanded it has been.

Located on the corner of Curlewis & Glenayr avenue, this cosy establishment cuts out the hustle of Bondi in a tranquil-​land, where large pillows, dark interiors, and delicious aromas steal you from reality.
Sharing is caring, so in my opinion don’t hog your favourite dish, share between your friends, or even new friends you may have met on the night. The prices steadily range form $ 12-​$ 20 for a tapas dish, so if you’re a bit more peckish, try the larger dishes, and avoid the small ones.
Open for breakfast on the weekends, you’ll love the cosy vibe, and open window seats looking onto the beautiful people in Bondi. Try the Speakeasy eggs — shallow baked w spinach, chorizo, roast potato, tomato & toast.
If you’re going with a group of 5 or more, try and book ahead of time, as ‘cosy’ also means small. Perfect for a relaxing dinner date.

Tapas culture is fairly flawless in my opinion, I associate it with sunshine, friends, relaxing and a great variety of tastes.
The Speak Easy bar has got this outlook nailed. The red-​lit interior blends the inside with the outside with its open sided restaurant letting the heat from the streets drift in.
Everyone perches round low tables, putting the stress upon seeing one another rather than the dishes provided.
As a large group we did our best to order different things so I was able to sample most of the tapas menu, huzzah! Although some of the dishes didn’t seem as intrinsically Spanish as I’d hoped, they were always packed with flavour and varying textures. My favourite was a rustic blend of chorizo and fried potato, simple yet truly moreish.
We couldn’t wait for the pudding as we’d spotted the pannecottas other customers had ordered. Sadly they’d sold out by the time it came for us to order, but there were still lots of delicious possibilities!
The customer service was great as, despite there being some delays, we were always kept informed of what was happening in the kitchen so we didn’t sit around looking like mugs for half an hour!
Ordering in bulk does have its down-​sides as the bill came to about $ 40 per head, so I’d recommend holding out for a special occasion to visit this place.

Speakeasy is a hole in the wall winebar /​tapas space which unites suave culture with comfort. Hidden away from Bondi Beach, this special place is easy to miss. It’s almost hidden which is why I like it. The interiors are dark and if there was one word to describe it, it would be ’”cosy”.
They have a wonderful wine collection and yummy foods to share. Small dishes include Roast beetroot and yoghurt dip w bread $ 7.5 and Zucchini, w feta + mint $ 9.50. Larger tapas range in price from $ 12 — $ 20. I’d recommend their house cured salmon and grilled halloumi… the dishes are slighly small, so I suggest ordering a little bit more…
What is also another fabulous discovery about SpeakEasy are their breakfasts. I went there with a friend and he couldn’t stop thanking me for the introduction. We both ordered the Barcelona eggs — shallow baked w house cured salmon, roast potato, ricotta, capers, sp. onion,
spinach + Toast $ 15.
