This place is about 45 minutes from Sydney proper, but it’s a cracking drive through ghost gum bushland. Church Point is a dinky little community occupying a prime position on the water and by all rights this café should be killing it, but they miss the mark, which kind of sucks for everyone. They suffer from the holy triumvirate of Poor Eating Experiences: 1) Overpriced. Yes, you’re on the water. No, you shouldn’t charge through the nose for it. 2) The food we ordered was pretty average. Further to point 1, we’re happy to pay for amazing vittles. But the burger was, well, pretty ‘snuh’, really, and my brekky didn’t set the world alight. The wedges were good, but I’d be worried if a café couldn’t get wedges over the line. 3) Poor service. The wait staff couldn’t care less. They brought us the wrong things, we had to ask for our hot chocolate twice more than was necessary, and smiling must have been a sackable offence because there was nary even the tightest of thin-lipped grimaces to be seen. One thing I did enjoy: the barefoot hippie couple that putted a dinghy across from nearby Scotland Island and treated themselves to a slap-up feed. You can’t buy personality like they brought to the place. If you could, this joint should be making some heavy investments.
