Tbsp is a small little brunch spot that has earned itself a must wait in line before entering reputation. However luckily for us we didn’t have to wait more then 15 minutes. The menu has a bit of everything from healthy quinoa salad to a fried chicken sandwich. As I had ate some pretty bad food the day before I went for the quinoa. For some reason I thought it would taste something other than healthy. I was dissapointed the vegetables tasted like… Vegetables however they were fresh and the egg was cooked to perfection with a runny yolk. The green tea donut didn’t dissapoint with nuggets of green tea crunchy bits, green tea chocolate coating and a green tea dough. Yummoh.

This little gem of a place… What a great find. Came down for Saturday brunch with a friend and as usual we chose a sweet dish and a savory to share. The strawberry French toast was so light, fluffy and delicious and the brisket with eggs and toast was one of the best things I’ve tasted in ages. Coffee was really good and service was friendly.

Been meaning to try this place for ages! Got the Kimcheeseburger and fried chicken sandwich. Kimcheeseburger was the hero of the day. Great flavour, juicy patty and melted cheese. Both came with a side of shoestring chips which left us rolling out the door. Will be back again to try their cakes and donuts which looked simply delicious. Great staff, good service.

Just loving it. Too much to say, great coffee, friendly staff and Fantastic Food, all happen to be here ~ But please be mind, this café is VERY popular therefore it’s VERYBUSY, even during a weekdays morning. However, i would definitely says that it worth the wait. I had the matcha latte which really impressed me. All these time the matcha latte that i’ve been trying, most of it was made from a ready instant sweetened powder, which kind of too sweet for me. But in Tbsp., they made it from real milk with authentic unsweetened matcha powder. It just so perfect for me. I had the Quinoa bowl with veges n egg. The Quinoa was cooked perfectly for me(not too hard to chew n not too dry). It was mixed with orange miso so it tasted sweet n fresh, kind of special too. My husbad had the Beef Brisket Benedict. He was very satisfied with it portion and the flavour. Maybe this is bit exaggerate, but i felt so touched about they mindful thought when they preparing the drinks n food. Will definitely recommend to all my friends n will be back again.

Have come here for a coffee because I was advised and read reviews about this place of which have all been great. However just went in for a couple of takeaway coffee’s, however this coffee tasted below standard. The lattee seemed burnt and didn’t have the greatest flavour. Normally I would advised barista and get new coffee’s made at this stage, however did not have time to do this. I will return back here to experience once again and hopefully this will change my experience here.

Tried the Kimcheeseburger today and it was like no other burger I have tried before so straight away I give this an 8.5÷10 just for originality but they backed it up with some delicious tasting ingredients! The beef patties were cooked to perfection and had a nice pinkness in the middle and married with some spicy Kim chi this burger was soo good! Definitely a share meal and make sure you have plenty of napkins because it is super juicy!

I asked some Unilocalers where they would go for interesting brunch with great coffee in Perth and tbsp. is where they sent me. I don’t know the ‘burbs of Perth very well, but my feeling is that Bayswater isn’t exactly the most happening place in town. So that fact that at 10am on a Saturday morning there’s lines out the door and a waitlist being constantly added to indicates that tbsp. might be the place to put Bayswater on the map! We were after interesting and interesting is what we got! We shared the Akooki eggs(a spicy scrambled egg number) and a pork ragu with rice«cakes» which was the most textural and tasty thing I’ve eaten for breakfast in a very long time. It was superb, ridiculously filling and a really interesting option for brunch. While we had waited for a table(about a 15 minute wait) we grabbed some(delicious) takeaway coffees and also got one on the way out, because sadly we couldn’t sit and have one during or after our meal without needing to get up, stand in a line, and then order and pay before returning to the table. We visited that counter three separate times to get coffees and a meal! It’s this ordering system, and the service design in general, that stops me from giving tbsp. a 5 star rating. The need to line up, order and pay, might make turning the tables faster but it doesn’t make for a necessarily pleasant experience. Want another coffee? You’ll need to stop your conversation and go and line up and order. Need to go to the bathroom? You’ll need to battle your way through the crowd lining up to order and pay and all the staff who are trying to get to and from the kitchen. I’m a service design nerd so maybe I’m the only person bothered by this, but I do think with a few small tweaks in floor layout and service design that tbsp. could really nail it on all fronts.

Someone please wake me up, am I dreaming ??? I think I just found a brunch haven in my local suburb. Can’t believe it’s taken me so long to try it but I’m so glad I did because I am a FAN !!! Tbsp; Exceptional quality food using the best ingredients & prepared with such care & love. The French brioche was hands down the best dish I’ve had for brunch in a very long time. The toast was cooked to perfection and the addition of the cereal crunch and butter was mouth watering. Presentation was perfect as well! The scrambled eggs on toast with bacon was a great serving with the eggs being fluffy & light — for a simple dish, it ticked all the boxes. Coffee lovers out there will be impressed with a variety of beans to choose from. Good coffee is hard to find but tbsp delivers the goods. Tbsp is a local gem which means prepare yourself for a line up on weekends. We were lucky to get one of the last available tables and that was at 8.30am on a Sunday. Is it worth the wait? You betcha!

It’s a cute little café — simple but warm décor. The all day menu has the usual breakfast items and some not so usual ones. The fried chicken sandwich was a juicy, deep fried delight. The beef burger with kimchee had good flavours but the fairly wet ingredients made it a challenge to eat in public with any dignity. Both came with some crispy french fries. Coffee was very good. Prices for the burgers are a little up there but not too over the top. I’d like to return and try the congee and if they have them on a regular basis, the almost obscene chocolate filled donuts with a tube of what looked like salted caramel poking out of them. Service was genuine and ultra friendly — and in my opinion that’s what can make or break any café regardless of the quality of the food.

Loved it. Although a bit exxy the quality is wonderful and the staff are so lovely! The serving sizes are also huge. The coffee is well made and well presented. A group of us came and tried a bunch of dishes. The congee was nice, with chicken skin and pickles. My pork belly sandwich was enormous, cooked beautifully although the soggy cabbage was a bit wet. The burger was good, lots of fries. The donuts though are the big drawcard as they have unique flavours like Black sesame with salted egg. Definitely going back. Just beware the long lines during peak brunch times!

Taking a cue from its Maylands neighbour, the old suburb of Bayswater finally appears to be undergoing a slow but steady renaissance. Several of the tired and shabby shop fronts have been replaced by new cafes such as tbsp, Drip Espresso and the Artisan Market Café. It’s long overdue Baysie, but better late than never. Tbsp, referred to in everyone’s parlance as ‘tablespoon’, sets the standard in this hood. Its funky menu is appealing and different to the usual brunch and lunch offerings. The über-friendly staff really seal the deal. This bunch of young’uns at front of house are a breath of fresh air, and know how to make you feel welcome. Forget any ideas about typical eggs on toast, porridge and avocado smash here. How about a cheese and kimchi toasty, beef brisket with poached eggs and beer braised onions, and slices of pandan cake and seaweed curry loaf? We loved it so much we visited twice in the last fortnight. Alex was so enamoured of the fried chicken sandwich that he ordered the same thing the second time. A succulent fried chicken thigh wedged in a soft brioche bun with an Asian-type slaw, was accompanied by a mountain of fries. Even the fries were seasoned with a tasty salt mix. My rice congee with confit chicken, slow-cooked egg, chicken crackling and spring onions was liberally doused in a quality sesame oil that brought the flavours and textures together. I’ve always loved this comfort dish but Tbsp’s version really brought the house down. The pumpkin tartine I tried on my first visit was a beautifully coloured dish of orange pumpkin, green pesto and pepitas, pink pickled onion and white fennel, and almost too pretty to eat. But I managed. Their drinks offerings are also a tad unusual. My slow drip coffee with tonic water was quenching and refreshing, and Alex loved his tea concoction of strawberry and basil flavours. Tbsp oozes friendliness and casual innovation. It’s wonderful to find a little suburban spot where nothing is ordinary and everything aspires to be extraordinary.

tbsp. 10 King William St Bayswater One of the most trending brunch places in Perth at the moment is tbsp in Bayswater. Many local bloggers and foodies sing praise of the creativity and quality of their dishes and coffee. A couple of weeks ago, we decided to pay a visit. It was a Sunday around brunch time and there was already a line. We had to wait approximately 20 minutes for a table. Boy, it was so worth it. First thing first: the coffee was amazing. Top level. Smooth and creamy as expected. Next, to start with we ordered the pandan, choc chip, oreo & brioche muffin. It was out of this world! We’ve never tasted anything like it. So many ingredients and layers but somehow they create a perfect harmony in a shape of a muffin. Loved it. Another starter was the salty egg yolk donut. Just spot on. For main we had the Pulled pork panini with pickled jalapeño, ementhal, and vietnamese salad and the french toast with whipped honey butter and cereal crunch. The pulled pork panini was great. It was almost too simple but the additional jalapeño and ementhal added more spice and colour to this otherwise ubiquitous dish. The star of the day was the french toast. Fluffy toasted brioche, sweet, tasty honey butter, and the cereal crunch are the perfect combo. This is what people should have for breakfast everyday. We couldn’t get enough of it. This is their most popular dish, by the way. Just saying. My daughter ordered fried eggs on toast. Eggs were perfect. Just perfect. We met some friends when we were there. They recommended that we order the congee next time. A strange dish in a place like this, but then most of their dishes are Asian fusion-inspired anyway. We will be back. Tablespoon in Bayswater has been popping up on my foodie radar for months now. Thankfully, the buzz has quietened and we avoided a queue in the blaring summer heat. We ordered and paid at the counter. First, the coffee arrived — my handsome dining companion said it was very good! The food arrived about 15 minutes later. The brisket benedict($ 22) had gooey slow-cooked eggs, sweet tender onions, creamy hollandaise, and meaty beef brisket. The American BBQ flavours and paprika were a little overpowering for breakfast and the ciabatta bread was lost at the bottom, but the dish was tasty and oh-so-filling. My mouth is more used to rice porridge than brisket for breakfast. I loved the congee($ 16), fragrant with sesame oil and sending me back to my childhood. My mum or babysitter would always mix through egg whites, but the slow-cooked egg at Tbsp was delicious. I liked the chicken crackling and the pickled cucumber was unexpected but really delicious! The staff are very friendly and tap water flows freely. Our breakfast at tsbp was worth the trek for the congee. The breakfast menu is an unusual mix of Western and Asian dishes. Give it a shot if you’re in the area!

I read so many buzzing reviews about the Tbsp. in Bayswater that I planned to wake up really early one Saturday and visited this place. Apparently an 8AM arrival couldn’t be considered early especially since we formed a queue straight away as soon as we were there. The staff had a chat in the background about having a separate line for take away and diner. There was one dish that I really wanted to try especially after seeing a couple of photos on Instagram. It was the chicken congee! I have a soft spot for congee especially since I was so used to having congee and rice crackers every morning when I grew up in Indonesia. Hubby was so keen to order the pork belly so he had no problem deciding as well. I was going to order a flat white with soy milk but ended up selecting«Honey I’m home» tea. The tea came first and it had chrysanthemum flowers in it. The staff informed me that the tea can be brewed up to five times and still retain the flavour(the closest thing to the bottomless tea!). Later on I actually asked one of the staff to re-brew the tea before I finished with my meal. When the staff put down our bowl of chicken congee, the delicious aroma was really enticing! Without additional salt and pepper, the congee tasted perfect already. I love the generous amount of spring onions that was served together with it as well as the chicken knuckle. The chicken confit was very very tender, juicy and has a bit of sweetness to it. I really enjoy this dish and won’t mind coming back to eat this again. On the other hand, Hubby almost didn’t offer me any sample of his pork belly, chorizo & potato hash because he really enjoyed it. He literally frowned when I asked him to swap his bowl around with mine! I went straight for the pork belly(tee hee!). The pork belly was succulent and very easy to eat. «You should definitely try the hash potato», he said. He was right, the potato tasted very delicious. Even the big potato wasn’t bland at all, it was like the potato actually absorbed all the flavour well inside it. The crunchy skin had enough saltiness and perfect crisp to it. When I walked around I saw some pandan muffins on display and I made a mental note to buy one for take away and be shared with some church friends. Unfortunately I left the muffin on the car’s backseat so I had it all to myself the next morning. The fluffiness of the muffin and the mixture of oreo and blueberries was really good. Tbsp. surprised me with their good portions, price and service. I was walking around to snap some photos and the busy barista managed to say«good morning» to me. One of the staff even told me to call her if I had any question and I want my tea to be re-brewed for the third time. We found the place to be busiest between 7am — 9am. To be honest, I don’t think I’d mind waiting in the queue to experience tbsp. again.

The people of Bayswater have a lot to be pleased about with new kid on the block Tbsp declaring its presence on King William Street. This new hotspot is serving up some seriously good brunch fare with an Asian influence. Think congee with chicken confit, slow cooked egg, chicken crackling and coriander, or fried chicken sandwich with pickle brined maryland, gochujang slaw and pickled cucumber on a brioche bun, alongside decadent dishes like french toast with whipped honey butter and cereal crunch. Safe to say, I wanted to eat everything on the menu. When we arrived at 9.30 to a café that was brimming over, we were greeted at the door by the friendliest waitress ever. Seriously. I kinda wanted to ask her if we could just be friends already. It does make such a difference to be welcomed in such a friendly manner, it definitely sets up the scene for a great morning. Once we sat down and I got over my waitress crush, we turned our attention to the menu to fret over the choices that were going to have to be made. It was 5 minutes of extreme angst, but I eventually managed to settle on the pork belly with chorizo and potato hash, onions, peppers, fried egg and siracha. My sister Jocelyn opted for the chorizo and roasted tomato scrambled eggs on toast(gluten free). Coffee was also in order, and with the beans coming from Blacklist Coffee Roasters I knew it was going to be good. And it was. Everything was. That pork belly was tender with a layer of perfectly cooked, melt in your mouth, why-isn’t-there-more-of-this fat on top. The chorizo through the dish gave it an extra meaty hit, and the potato was cooked to crispy perfection. I can’t say enough good things about this dish, or Tbsp. in general. Well worth a visit!

From the creators of Smuggled Seeds comes tbsp., a casual café serving great coffee and a creative brunch menu with Asian influences. My mum and I ventured to Bayswater just to check this new place out, and were greeted by friendly barista and co-owner Rob. The people at tbsp. are serious about their coffee and use local Western Australian suppliers Blacklist Roasters, as well as the best milk from Bannister Downs. However that day our coffees were made from beans roasted by Small Batch, a Melbourne roasting company. My flat white came out perfect, and tasted divine. My mum was also very happy with her cappuccino. For breakfast we decided to share two dishes, the Brisket benedict($ 22) and the Chicken congee($ 14). The servings were larger than what I assumed from social media, the brisket benedict was served with beer braised onions, slow-cooked eggs, hollandaise and ciabatta. The meat was cooked well and was the onions gave it a bit of sweetness. Congee is a traditional rice porridge dish served in many Asian countries. At tbsp. it is served Indonesian style, with confit chicken, chicken crackling, coriander, spring onions and a slow-cooked egg. The crackling is basically deep fried chicken skin, and makes you feel a little guilty, but tastes so good! On the way out we managed to grab the last Lemon & Lime Donut, and also a plain one. These donuts were winners, especially the one filled with lemon & lime curd! I wish that I was able to try more dishes like the French Toast and Burger, but I’m sure I’ll be there next week for more.

Came here on a Saturday for brunch, and my my my! Tbsp you might not be on «Whatley Crescent» but you have definitely won my vote for best café in the Bayswater/Maylands area! Owned by previous owner of Oxford Street’s Smuggled Seeds. comes their new venture, TBSP Greeted with friendly staff members, the place is super open, bright and there’s lots of seating whether your group brunching or coming in pairs. The menu is short with some fresh dishes and moorish ones too and if you’re wanting to go all out. get that brisket benedict, you wont regret it. Special shoutouts to their bomb Cold Brew, packed full of flavour it definitely has me wanting to go back for more!

So how do you actually pronounce«tbsp.» you ask? «Tablespoon» is much easier than any of the alternatives but it doesn’t really matter, because this latest addition to Perth’s café scene is great however you look at it. But I’m getting ahead of myself… I arrived not long after the 7am opening on the first Saturday of trading to find things already buzzing. Word had spread pretty quickly, and the crowds arrived fast. The following few weeks would see a large number of Perth’s food bloggers /instagrammers visiting at least once. Coffee is a big deal at tbsp. and they do it well, although I wasn’t particularly blown away by my long mac. Let me clarify — it was very good, I just think that great coffee is becoming the norm in Perth and only the bad coffee is standing out. Which isn’t a bad thing. There’s plenty of interesting stuff on the menu, and you you’ll probably have seen many of the dishes on Instagram or Facebook if you’ve been online over the last few weeks. Feeling reasonably adventurous but not after anything too heavy(ie with chips and /or hollandaise) I chose the chorizo & roasted tomato scrambled eggs on toast($ 15). The eggs were really good, soft and buttery, and it was evident just from the quality of the chorizo that they’re serious about food at tbsp. Surprisingly, my favourite thing on this plate was the toast. I don’t know how they made it so delicious, and I shudder to think how much butter /oil /whatever I ingested during this meal. But it was worth it. Our second visit was the following Saturday for lunch and the café was almost full when we arrived, and there was a wait for tables not long after. I really like the layout inside, it’s open and there’s plenty of natural light. It’s pretty cosy but the tables aren’t too close together. Good for groups as well as couples. There have been plenty of staff working on both visits and they all seem very friendly, making sure that the customers are well looked after. Fancying something a little different, I tried a cold drip. This was really refreshing, and is a drink I’m getting into — my favourite has been made with sparkling water, and they have a version at tbsp with tonic water, although it was $ 7 which seemed a little extreme. Going for something a little more lunch-y, I picked the pork belly with chorizo & potato hash, onions, peppers, fried egg & sriracha($ 23) — spotting now that the original menu had chimichurri instead of sriracha. This dish tasted as beautiful as it looked — the pork belly was wonderfully soft, although my favourite part was the onions & crunchy potatoes! I’d be happy to eat this anywhere, for any meal of the day. And don’t be scared of the sriracha if you’re chilli-adverse, the heat isn’t over the top and this dish is a really harmonious combination of ingredients and flavours. Renay chose the beef meatballs with tomato ragu, herbed buffalo ricotta and chargrilled garlic toast($ 19). Once again, this was a great dish — tasty meatballs, rich ragu and a nice textural & sharp twist from the ricotta. This was another dish that would go down well at any time of day. They’ve obviously put a lot of effort into the coffee and the food at tbsp, and they seem to have got it right on opening which is to admired. They deserve to do well, and hopefully the crowds will stay once the fuss dies down and Perth’s foodies congregate at the next big thing. Whilst the coffee was good, the real standout for me at tbsp was the food and I will most definitely be back to keep working my way through the menu. Highly recommended.

One year ago, we said goodbye to Smuggled Seeds, fast forward to October 2015, we say hello to tbsp. tbsp is brought to you by the awesome people and friendly faces behind Smuggled Seeds, bringing you the best of brunch and coffee. I had the brisket benedict with beer braised onions, slow-cooked eggs, hollandaise and ciabatta. Similar to the texture of a pulled pork, the brisket was succulent, soft and tender. The slow-cooked eggs, perfect. The stand out of the dish would be the hollandaise sauce. Texturally balanced, rich and creamy, drizzling down and soaking up the crusty ciabatta. It’s deliciously good and very hearty with a burst of moorish flavours. Jess had the pork belly, chorizo & potato hash, onions, peppers, fried egg and sriracha. It’s a dish inspired from Rob’s visit to The Grain Store in Melbourne. I sneaked a taste of Jess’s dish and it was very tasty. The pork belly was melt in your mouth juicy and tender with a hint of chilli kick from the sriracha. Mum had the red quinoa salad, slow-cooked eggs, charred brocolli, spinach, cherry tomatoes and crispy seaweed. If you love your greens, you will fall in love with this dish. It’s bursting full of fresh flavours with a crunch on every bite from the crispy seaweed and quinoa. Yes, we still did have some room for another dish. We shared a brioche french toast, whipped honey butter and cereal crunch and fell in love with it immediately with one bite. It’s soft and fluffy with a slight crunch from the crust, marrying well with the heavenly whipped honey butter. This french toast is not overly sweet, so trust me, you won’t feel sick and you will keep wanting more with each bite. With such good brunch food and coffee, a second visit to tbsp is already in order and it’s definitely one café that is going to be very popular among foodies. Keep it up and great work to Rob and the tbsp team!
