Arrived not too long before closing, but enjoyed a refreshing iced coffee. Good music selection too. Imagine it kicks on more when it’s open at night, but as other review have said its… eclectic menu meant we didn’t try to go there for breakfast.

Ok but Jaffles only for breakfast weird. Lunch and dinner look great though. Coffee was ok and brownie was nice.

A gorgeous looking intimate café with lot’s of attention to detail. The coffee was great. Although it ticks all the boxes, it hasn’t hooked me in to be a regular haunt. Still worth checking out though.

Best coffee I’ve found in Tasmania! Cool little place(seating for about 20) with great tunes playing both times we were there. The menu looks interesting but I’ve only had their coffee.

Brilliant coffee and they have a beautiful antique piano(Collard and Collard). What more could you ask for? Oh a wood heater? Oh they’ve got that too: p

Jam Jar Lounge has been open of a Friday evening for some time now, but it was only last Friday I got to sample it. Jam Jar has such a lovely cosy and intimate atmosphere which is perfect for catching up with groups up to about ten people. Service is friendly, attentive and welcoming. Food options for the evenings is a variety of Japanese-style and Japanese-Australian fusion dishes served in smaller portions almost tapas style. I’m yet to sample their breakfast or lunch menus.

17−02−13 I wanted something light so I requested eggs benedict without the ham, replaced with mushrooms and spinach. And a latte. You can imagine my shock when it arrived. The latte was quite good, had the same slightly bitter first mouthful which then became easy to drink but the food… Eight tiny little button mushrooms and no spinach, instead there was seven leaves of mixed salad on the side with balsamic drizzled on top. I suspect the two raw baby spinach leaves in that were their idea of giving me spinach… the eggs were good, slightly overdone — I consider a true poached egg to actually kind of burst and melt whereas this did not. The yolk was not firm but not runny. Hollandaise was quite good, obviously made that day on the premises but didn’t have any extras, just a clean formulaic sauce. A bit of crushed pepper or lemon zest makes all the difference. The base was one slice of flat sourdough. Mushrooms were alright, nothing to write home about. Bland but at least they were actually almost fully cooked, very slightly sweaty but I prefer that to that horrible raw undercooked stuff you seem to find a lot in cafes these days. For $ 20, I expect a bit more than that especially in the greens department. The staff did have smiles and were very hospitable so that was a plus. My mother and sister had the bircher and they enjoyed that. I think, really, it’s not a bad café just overpriced. 2.5÷5

My morning at Jam Jar Lounge was somewhat disappointing, I have to say. Their main focus is their breakfast menu, which is an all-day breakfast available until 2pm(and we all know how I feel about an all-day breakfast menu), but there isn’t one distinguishing meal on the menu. I was so bored by it. It was a menu I’d expect to find at a mum and dad corner store, not a trendy place in Battery Point. It’s fine if you like to choose between scrambled eggs, eggs benedict or big breakfasts, but even then my tip would be to not get the big breakfast. A whopping $ 22 for defrosted packet hash browns, one stingy strip of half-decent bacon, a cluster of weird-tasting mini tomatoes, a small serve of scrambled eggs on one slice of bread, a handful of okay mushrooms and a sausage. I guess that sounds like a lot, but I don’t think I’ve ever paid $ 22 for a café’s big breakfast before, and I don’t think I’ve ever been that disappointed by one before, either. Oh, I also got a bonus handful of lettuce underneath all that. That was probably confusing more than anything else. Lettuce? The coffee is pretty good, the service is friendly enough, there’s free wi-fi. Street parking only, which can be tricky around Battery Point, especially on weekends. Order and pay at the counter, which means you can breeze out of there at the end of your meal, but also doesn’t lend itself for any constructive feedback regarding meals that I may have voiced at the end of mine. I might try to get back for their Friday night tapas one week, because unless that breakfast menu changes, I’m not really interested.

Relatively recent addition to the Battery Point/Salamanca Breakfast/Lunch circuit and it’s quality makes it a welcome addition. Arriving at about 11.30am we were very happy to find a table straight away. We sat indoors although had Hobart’s weather been a bit more pleasant we would have seized upon the outdoor seating at the rear of the premises. We ordered Jam Jar’s Big Breakfast and Poached Eggs with sides of mushrooms and Bacon. Both meals were excellent with the bacon crisp and the eggs poached perfectly. The hash browns did appear to have been the packet variety. The breakfast menu covers the normal hit list and appears to be the food focus of the business with the lunch options a bit more limited. A tapas menu is avaliable on Friday evenings. Drinks-wise we ordered orange juice which was bottled. We also shared a hot chocolate and earl grey which were both of a good standard. The café also offers a handy take away coffee option in the area. The café has a great ambience to it with a very homely vibe to it. Excellent music. There are also books/newspapers and magazines littered throughout. It also appeared that there are live music sessions on Sunday afternoons. Wi-fi avaliable.
