PWR Urban Ascent

This place is a bit smaller than City Summit, without the add-​on of a café or gear store. However, I think it may be a bit cheaper? It does feature an «ice climbing wall» — I didn’t see anyone using it at the time, but you can rent crampons and ice picks I think and then climb that section in ice climbing style? I don’t know how realistic it is, and there’s only a small section, but cool idea anyway and would be fun to try!
There are various routes around the room, including some cracks and overhangs, and a small bouldering boulder in the middle, surrounded by mats. A lot of the routes were clearly designed by quite tall folk! Even the supposedly easy routes had gaps far too big for me to reach, and I’m average height for a female. However, you can always ignore the routes (or their ratings) and do your own thing to challenge yourself.
Given that we brought two kids with us (13 and 15), I thought the introduction/​instruction was a bit perfunctory, and the person made fun of one of my party to me and one of the kids, which I didn’t think was very appropriate/​nice. The facilities were clean and there seemed to be a pretty nice vibe/​community among those that appeared to be regulars there.
Overall, Bassendean is a bit far for me, but for those closer it’s a good option if you are mostly interested in just getting some wall time in.
