As an avid lover of dumplings, I must admit this place did not impress me too much. In a town where great dumplings can be found absolutely everywhere, the food here was just ok. We’ve tried to come a few times previously but were waiting for BYO license. This time we were told we could enjoy our wine but only after being seated with the bottle open, were we told we could not. Customer service didn’t quite seem to be a priority but certainly nothing terrible. Give it a try if you’re curious.

Will always give the new guys on the block a bit of grace to get their mojo working, but Mum has been around for three-quarters of a year now. Also, I was pretty excited about a local dumpling place so expectation was high. First strike is simply that they still don’t have their BYO licence(or any liquor licence) yet. When they opened we and some friends would saunter down with a few bottles and keep checking, keep being told it was coming soon, and keep heading out elsewhere on the block for dinner. This last time we popped by we were told by the guy greeting us that they were BYO, but it wasn’t until we sat down to order that our waitress corrected him and told us they still were not. No big deal, these things can take time and might not be their fault, etc, but we did feel a little tricked as we had pretty much ordered by the time we found this out. Anyways, gripe about having to be wine-less for one night aside, onto the food: The dumplings are decent(but not amazing.) Stick to their strength however and just load up on dumps. The other dishes — especially a deep-fried calamari that was 95% batter — were fairly average and left you with that artery-hardening feeling. Would return just for dumps if we can’t be bothered heading 10 mins down the road to Box Hill dumpling mecca, but otherwise Mum might need some more time to really find her feet.
