Emu lake has got some swans in cohorts. Strolling through Alta Laguna park last week I was delighted to see the body of water stretching out across the park. There is something enchanting abut water at night– the impression of endlessness sprinkled with panoramic stars makes for quite the romantic mood. Unfortunately as I approached the wooden jetty that leads out to a gazebo in the water, I saw it was blocked off with construction– oh what a tease! I continued along the less romantic foot path and looked longingly at the gazebo– we will have our reunion. I was able to watch some of the nocturnal goings on and was quite pleased to spot some black swans cruising the lake– ever so classy! I would have stayed longer and enjoyed the magic but emu lake is also quite popular with the mosquitoes, as was I. Occasionally a strong odour comes from the lake– in waves(like much of Perths’ bodies of water) but it didn’t ruin the ambiance for me. For those of more fragile, dainty material, a pocket full of posies would be advisable.
