The Athelstone Takeaway changed hands in the not too distant past, and the new owners have definitely lifted the bar with the quality of their offering. Fish comes in beautiful crisp batter, and in generous servings, the chips are a perfect crisp golden brown, the chicken is plump and luscious, and the salads are all fresh and delicious — they have a stack of salads on offer, including a chicken ceasar pasta salad that makes a really lovely lunch. A little side case has a selection of greek desserts, not sure if they’re made on the premises or brought in, but they ARE lovely little moments of heaven.
There’s a full range of everything you’d expect from a good take away — fish, chips, chicken, chiko rolls, spring rolls, crab sticks, burgers, hot dogs, yiros, and the most recent addition, fresh made banana fritters. These are to die for, and are done at a market price, so as the price of banana’s has been dropping so has the price of the fritters. Worth the trip alone :) (while they’re cooking, slip down to Woolies and grab a little tub of a premium vanilla ice cream and a caramel sauce to have with them… heaven on a plate)
