This is a great place for a weekend Yum Cha. The food is always fresh and plentiful. The sesame prawn rolls are packed full of prawny goodness and the custard tarts light and fluffy. Reservations are highly recommended on Fathers/Mother’s Day. They also have an Al a carte menu available.

Ive lived in the area for around four years and had never ventured up to West’s in that entire time, until now. Leagues clubs are what they are, and West’s offer a plethora of bonuses such as discounts and prizes, if you pay the $ 5 to join up. After a slightly uncomfortable mug shot which has me looking a little too amply endowed in the chin region(every woman knows a pic taken from below your chin is never in your favour) we hit the stairs to try out the Chinese restaurant, Golden times. You CAN have a golden g-time here, and though I had incurred what can only be described as «mega blister» from my new shoes on the way in, which lent towards hindering my experience, we were ushered to the Gwilo section up the very far end of the room. I was forced to hobble, shoe asunder, for what seemed like a mile. We were offered one menu, and I think it was the expensive seafood one. People there were ordering things that we didn’t see on ours, which led me to suspect there was a different one also available, never the less, the scallops were delicately cooked in garlic and eschallots, if not a little bit dainty in size for the price. The curry chicken was surprisingly good, and we hoovered the massive pile of steamed veg. There appeared to be Peking duck on offer, although the waiter carved it up and gave about a dozen rolls to our neigbouring table, it wasnt all for them as you might expect a Peking duck order to be. ie: Exclusively, and greedily yours. Keatos which we tried another time, is the bistro area which has it’s own adjoining bar, and on Sundays does a raffle. $ 20 gets you a bunch of numbers and it seems like a 1 in 20 chance of winning, so. well your chances are good. We cleaned up with three prizes, but be prepared for potential table flipping if you see me there sans winnings. When you leave the dining level you are funneled apologetically into a huge Pokie room. Having not played pokies in some time, I was like a kid in a sweets shop. I felt dirty, but also thrilled. They have all the most modern touch screen machines and even a gigantic«outdoor» smokers pokie section. Not that I want to spruik this at all. As an added incentive, Wests have a Thursday night badge draw where you can win up to a grand. With 10% off food and drinks as a member, this a good place to go if you’re bored with the pub scene and don’t mind hanging out with a few nonnas whilst having a slap on the fruit machines.
