This is where you go when you want unparalleled relaxation and rejuvenation in Brisbane’s North. The first time I booked a float session here, I was nervous as to how it would go. I had read a lot about the benefits(and they are plenty) of using the sensory deprivation chambers, physically and mentally, so I decided to try them out. Reservations are essential, so I called and arranged a time mid-morning to come in for a two hour session. I was met by a lovely lady who explained everything I needed to know about the float, lead me through the quaint, tastefully renovated cottage to the back where I showered, and went into the room with the tank. With pleasant relaxation music giving the dimly-lit room ambience, I climbed into the tank and closed the lid. Here, I was in darkness, effortlessly buoyant in body-temperature water filled with 500 kg of magnesium-rich Epsom salts. I immediately felt my body adjust, and my spine re-align, making me instantly feel better than I had in weeks. The weightlessness you feel is strange, floating in such a small(10in) amount of water, so naturally I bounced around like a baby for the first few minutes, then laid back and was able to meditate deeply for the two hour period — which seemed to be an immeasurable amount of time, I was in such a comfortable state. Immediately after exiting the tank, I felt calmer, and my body just felt amazing — no aches, no tense or stiff muscles. That night I slept like the dead, and awoke as the morning person I seldom ever are — refreshed, and with an amazing sense of clarity to go about my day. After doing a few more sessions, I noticed a huge decrease in stress, and an increase in brain activity — it makes me more alert, focused and with greater mental clarity. They also offer massage and other beauty therapy options which I haven’t tried but I imagine ending a float with a massage would literally be Nirvana for most.
