History

Established in 2013.

Yella Umbrella Walking Tours evolved from my years as a Tour Guide with the State Library of South Australia. I realised that there was a need for a comprehensive tour that provided visitors with a more complete insight into the history and origins of what is still a developing colony. By following in the footsteps of the early pioneers and hearing the tales of their hardships, history and landscape come together.

It is the stories behind the names and events that create a lasting impression on the visitor.

I was raised in England in ‘time honoured’ Lancaster a place with origins that go back beyond Roman settlement. and grew up with a love of history and archaeology. In later years I have taken degrees in Archaeology and English Language and Literature. My studies awakened a creative urge that has inspired me to write poetry, plays, short stories and novels. But it was time spent as a tour guide with the State Library that identified a need for a guided walking tour that would give visitors a comprehensive overview of the city of Adelaide and the origins of the colony of South Australia.
