I absolutely love this place, always friendly and you’re likely to make new friends there. Such a great and positive atmosphere with plenty of laughs and decent priced drinks. Plenty of variety for everyone with different themed nights like pov tin Tuesday and my personal favourite Black Coffee. I always try to pop in when I can, always welcoming very much a Cheers-like atmosphere so if you’re looking for a bar or just somewhere new to go without all the cutesy small bar hype this place is down-to-earth and right for you.

You know, I wouldn’t have known it existed unless I’d walked past an A-Frame proclaiming $ 5 beer! on James Place. You go up the stairs to a secret little bar that is a 1970’s paradise. The story goes that the old owners never renovated it and left it pretty much how it was when they shut up shop in the early 00’s. The current owners decided to keep the kitsch and open up! Upstairs are intimate little booths, wood panelling and lots of vinyl seating, complete with original cigarette burns. Downstairs is a little area for a band(Blues and Jazz on Thurs and Fri) and the teeny little bar. A good selection of Craft Beer and wines, and of course the $ 5 beer, which was Hollandia. It even has the original 1970s light fittings and it completed with newspapers from the early 90s and 80s. Chilled out, relaxed, eclectic music and a massive timewarp. Apparently it used to be a goth hangout!

Loved the feel of this but it would be great to have staff coming around greeting people! The jazz band last night was fantastic! What a cool little venue!

Not all their alcohol is on tThis place is just getting underway, and it’s doing pretty well considering the only signage it has is a small sign out the front of James Place and word of mouth. I can see it having a sort of Kitsch vibe to it, when it begins to kick off. Currently, the décor reminds me of a sort of old timey milk bar or old school burlesque bar. With rich reds and gold accents. This place is definitely more for a quiet drink among friends, and not for a wild party or night out. It is a wonderful place to start the night. The place is owned by the same people who ran ‘Tuxedo Cat’. The service whilst new, was very friendly. With booth seats just a few feet from the bar you could order a drink without the need to stand, or yell. It felt more like visiting a friend for a drink than a bar. It currently has a very limited menu(Their menus are glued into time weathered books, a different approach for an alcoholic venue) when it comes to alcoholic drinks, their ciders are lovely — I found that if you asked for something that was not on the menu, they would check — and do their best to accommodate you. I even got a chance to speak to the owner, who was absolutely lovely. It’s really nice to be able to go to a place, and have a casual drink with the owner. This place has small beginnings, but I am expecting to blossom into a wonderful little bar. he menu, just ask the friendly staff for advice and help!
