Hong Kong Asian Grocery Store has long been my saviour. Whenever I’m feeling parched or a little bit drowsy, I’ll head into the shop and pick up a can of cold Japanese coffee — and without a doubt I’ll leave with much more than intended.
These guys stock everything you’d expect from an Asian grocery store, which is in no way a disappointment. Whether it be vegetables, noodles, drinks, snacks, you name it — they’ll probably have it somewhere in there. The aisles are a little narrow, so expect a lot of shuffling past confused shoppers.
They recently also started selling macarons in-​store — they’re incredibly colourful and they seem to have a large range of different flavours. I’ll remember to ask them next time if they’re homemade — I can’t resist a homemade macaron!

I can’t express how much I love asian supermarkets. I love cooking, especially when it comes to Asain foods, and lets face it, the Asain aisle at the supermarket doesn’t exactly stock a lot of variety.
When I need shrimp paste, caramel soy, tamarind paste or any other ingredient for a curry or stir fry, I head here.
For such a small shop, the fit lots in. They have lots in the way of fresh and frozen goods too. Possibly the best thing about this store is the bubble tea. I’d never tried it until recently, now I can’t get enough of the stuff.

What a great little place. It’s toight loik a toiger in some places, partly because I’m a portly gentleman, but partly because the aisles are a bit too close together for two people to walk down.
But the fridge. Oh, the fridge. Keeping my steamer basket regularly topped up with dumplings and steamed buns and enabling me to have mini-​yum cha sessions cheaply of a Saturday morning. Get yourself some of the custard buns and be in heaven.

Hong Kong Grocery is my favourite Asian Market in the City. Not being the biggest of stores does not seem to be such an issue here, as there is an amazing amount crammed into every nook and cranny.
The best assets to the Market is all about being cool ie. straight to the fridge. Firstly the frozen fish, meat and veg section is very good and you can grab all of those great fry-​ables before heading to the back fridge and freezer to pick up your funky imported drink (I like the tangerine flavoured ones) and your bag of frozen dumplings. They have the best selection I have seen in Adelaide. Lots of options to make din-​dins quick, easy and soy-​tastic! The little chicken dim-​sims and pork buns are always a good bet!

The Hong Kong Asian Grocery is located in Chinatown, across from Dumpling King. This place is good when it comes to looking for herbs and spices, two-​minute noodles, and bubble tea.
They sell bubble tea in store, which you can order from outside. It’s cheaper than Qubic and Chatime, and is just as tasty. The store itself is small and tightly-​spaced inside. Be prepared to navigate through aisles and fellow shoppers within elbow range. It can be a pain if you’re not in the mood and just want to get in and out with your groceries. The service is quite good though, and the staff are generally helpful.
I was a bit disappointed with the limited range of Indomie, my favourite two-​minute noodle brand. They only had three flavours. They do, however, sell Mi Goreng for around $ 12 for a box of 40.
This place isn’t bad and is open later than other Asian grocery stores around Chinatown, but for a wider range of stock I would recommend shopping around at those other stores.
