dB Magazine

DB Magazine is an independent music magazine that is provided for free all over Adelaide. It is usually located in youth focussed stores, or at schools and universities, even at newsagents. All for $ 0.00.
It is full of reviews of recent local gigs, showcases of bands and artists, reviews of recently released CD’s and DVD’s, and more. A very arts focussed magazine. A great read for anyone interested in the local arts scene.

Out of the two big street press music papers in Adelaide — Rip It Up and dB — dB is the smaller, less ‘mainstream’ magazine. Both magazines have their strengths — and while I’m not a big street press reader — I tend to pick up dB first to check out their art reviews and to avoid the schnitzel section of Rip It Up.
The writing can be hit and miss, but I like to follow certain writers — Mateo SS. is one of their best music writers and Polly Dance does some good arts writing. dB manages to cover some of the more obscure stuff that Rip It Up misses at times, which I appreciate. If there is one thing I’d love to see more of in dB, it’s more of a tightly edited local focus.

DB is a street press that comes out every second Wednesday and is free. Yes that’s right, free. DB is an independent magazine and like most survives on advertising to stay afloat. This is the mag for the muso’s, and contains a lot of contributions from different kids in Adelaide reviewing new music and live gigs. They also have a lot of interesting interviews and features on the latest music news too.
DB has a good sense of irony and usually has a decent number of gags, and the kids on this team know their stuff, there is no sense of hackery, or imposters in the writing of this rag. The presentation is rough and ready, and the paper is also very rough. Would make an excellent exfoliant when done reading.
