Love this store! The staff are always so helpful but I gotta admit the prices are a lil too high, but I get it. Made in the USA. Once you start shopping here, it’s addicting. I’ve been here about 5 – 6 times already? The material and wearability is great and I definitely recommend ya’ll coming here if you have some spare money running around (LOTS of spare money).

The clothes are made to a good quality and the high waisted denim shorts are super comfortable and fit very well. The prices are crazy considering the style is minimalistic, but you pay for what you get. The clothes are manufactured in the United States and not China, so this may explain the high price. The lady whom served me was super friendly and could not help me enough. She was well mannered and polite.

Ahh American Apparel, the home of the hipsters. Don’t get me wrong, I’m probably sometimes stereotyped as a hipster myself, but this place is THE stereotype. Black thick framed glasses (even if you don’t wear glasses), high collared shirts, high-​waisted everything, and frilly socks to go with your heels.
Don’t tell my boyfriend, but I wish he shopped here more often. I love the mens range! Fantastic bold colours, bow ties, fitted pants, oh I could spend all day dressing him up like a Ken doll here. As for the women’s range, I generally like a lot of the items, especially because they seem to have every perfect shade of colour that you can wish for. Maroons, mustards, pastels, oh the colour joy. But some of the designs may be more appropriate for an ice skating costume.
I love the range of basics here, but I can’t often justify spending $ 100 on a top I could possibly find in K-​mart. Though this is the definite go to spot for stockings in every colour and style imaginable.

American Apparel is one of my favourite clothes shops in Adelaide. It is an American basics chain that has opened up around Australia, this is the only one in Adelaide. They have great basics, in absolutely every colour, for males and females. A lot of the time the items are unisex.
Once you start buying American Apparel, it becomes addictive. You need everything in the store! It fits well, looks good and seems to become a necessary part of every outfit.
However, it is slightly over-​priced. You end up paying a lot more just for the brand name. Where as you could walk down to target, or the local vintage shop and pick up something almost exactly the same for half the price. But then it wouldn’t be American Apparel would it?
Additionally, the variety of clothes present in the shop really does not vary very often. Once you have been in several times, everything is exactly the same. Occassionally, their range of vintage clothes will change, or they will get in a few short-​term new pieces.

I must admit, I’m not usually one to care too much about clothes, and i usually rely on good old Target.
I have been given a few gift cards and clothing from American Apparel though, and their stuff is pretty good.
Still not sure I’d fork out the cash if it weren’t for the gift cards, but it’s nice to able to buy something not from Target every once in a while.
Staff are okay, maybe a little on the pushy side, but not unfriendly.

Umm…they are one of the rare well-​hidden stores that have clothes all made in America and imported to Adelaide. As you can tell, I’m a massive fan of Western clothing, I fell in love with the fashion last time I went to America. yep, you name it, I’ve got the gangsta baseball caps at home, retro NBA jerseys, Run DMC Adidas shoes. I grew up with that good stuff.
The colourful clothing for both genders deserves all 4 stars, and the quality of the material is so good that if I had the money, guaranteed I would go home with several pieces of clothing. Be prepared to shell out over $ 120 though.
(which part don’t I like? ok… depending on who you approach, the most unhelpful and disinterested staff I have ever met in a clothing store = one star off)
Ignoring them though,
California clothes, people… California! where else in Adelaide can you get these kinda clothes?

I’m not the kind of person that demands attention when I walk into a store, especially when it comes to clothing stores. I enjoy the freedom to rifle through several articles of clothing, folding/​unfolding them and trying them on with as little interference as possible. There’s nothing worse than the feeling of a store clerk standing right outside a change room waiting for your approval on whether or not you’ll purchase the item you just tried.
However, that is not to imply that a lack of customer service is good either. The customer service at this store is, at best, poor. I’ve wandered in to American Apparel on numerous occasions, and not once have I been greeted, asked if I required assistance or communicated on any level with the clerks working in this store. The freedom to browse products without interruptions can only really be appreciated if you are first shown that the business cares about you. Instead, when you have store employees twirling their hair and bopping to the music playing on the stereo with a complete disregard for their customers, it’s a little hard to feel compelled to buy anything that their store is offering.
As for the clothing, the materials used by AA do happen to be thick and durable, meaning you won’t see dramatic shrinkages that you might see with other brands using cheaper fabrics. But I still can’t agree with a brand charging the prices that they do for «basics» that lack any sort of creative design or innovation. They are merely basics, and should be priced as such. On the flip side, if you’re happy to pay a little more for quality and not so concerned about every piece of AA clothing you own looking exactly the same, you can’t go wrong.
