We loved our experience at Saltshaker. It was such a cool experience to eat in someone’s home and Dan is awesome. His food was amazing and better than any restaurant in the city! The experience was very unique — we got to spend dinner speaking with different types of people from all of the world. Highly recommend doing this one night when in Buenos Aires.

Dinner at a closed door restaurant — a new and different experience for us. My husband and I have only the highest compliments for Chef Dan and the tasty meal he created. Local ingredients, unique combinations, and each course was just as exciting and delicious as the next. If you are traveling alone and want to enjoy a meal with new friends, this is your chance.

A lovely evening. Met other travellers and shared stories over a well executed meal. For me, the food highlight was the potato soup. All of the wine pairings were delicious. The 4 instead of 5 star rating is due to the fact that the pace of the meal seemed a bit rushed, but there was a lot of food to get through!

Just go. Book it now, and don’t think twice about it. This will be your best meal in BA – probably the best meal you’ve had in any city for even double the price. Look, I am a pain in the #@$#@ when it comes to food. Too long eating in cities where the French people who make tires also review restaurants(because that is something that obviously makes sense). So the truth is that I don’t tend to like«gourmet» food elsewhere. But this was incredible. All of the food was beyond impressive, and the wine pairings were spot on. One of the most special meals my girlfriend and I have had anywhere. My main recommendation to anyone is to beg Dan to make his gazpacho if the ingredients are in season. I realize that sounds like a bizarre suggestion, but you have never had anything like this – everyone at the table was kind of stunned by it. (To the guy below who seems to have taken off a star because he wanted French wine, to each their own, but I *strongly* disagree. I’m at a closed door restaurant in Argentina, give me exactly what you gave me – Argentine wine!!!)

My husband and I enjoyed every minute of our visit with Dan at Casa SalthShaker. The menu is thoughtfully designed and beautifully executed. I had a few dietary restrictions and I am so appreciative of the way Dan accommodated my sensitivities. We made friends that night that I still keep in touch with. If you’re considering a visit to Casa Saltshaker let me be the first one to tell you that it is well worth the investment.

A wonderful evening. The food was uniformly excellent with inspired wine pairings. The communal dining setup made for an excellent way to meet new people from around the world.

My fiancé and I came here while we were in BA and we loved it! Dan & his husband were so lovely! It was nice eating with other people at the same table and getting to know everyone. Each meal was paired with wine and the pairings were great! The food was spectacular and really creative in taste and presentation. All the wines were really delicious too. Dan was also very accommodating of mine & my fiancé’s food restrictions(we do not eat pork) and cooked us rabbit instead. Not only was the food and wine delicious but it was a very relaxed environment. We all just sat and talked and there was no rush to leave. This was a really great experience for us and I highly recommend it!

We first had the pleasure of dinning at Casa SaltShaker in 2008. Since then I had dreamed of returning, anticipating another great experience and meal. Well finally after many years we returned to Buenos Aires, and of course Casa SaltShaker. The wait was well worth it to say the least. Dan and Henry are fantastic host, who are bring personalized service to a new level, with Henry and Dan meeting and welcoming each guest to their home. When we arrived we were offered a Coctel, Tequila Reposado, Tia Maria and Amaro de Ras el Hanout, a wonderful cocktail of Tequila Reposado, Tia Maria(dark liqueur) and Dan’s homemade bitters with Ras el hanout(a spice mix from North Africa). The meal was simply amazing, elegant yet unpretentious, and each of the six diners had a favorite, my husbands was the Crema de Remolacha(creamed beet soup), for me it was the Nabo Japones(Japanese Daikon with Flounder) and the Adobo de Matambrito(pork flank). Two of the guest planned in advance and shared with Dan they did not eat port, so he substituted Rabbit for the pork, and it was their first time eating Rabbit and they seemed very pleased. Dan, as always describes each dish and wine pairing(and the wines were excellent) in both Spanish and English. The conversations were great; we spoke of travel, politics, backgrounds, romance(one couple was there for her to propose to him, and the story of how they met) and Dan shared how he and Henry met, and of course food. At the last minute our friend in BA decided to join us. When I say it was the most enjoyable dining experience he had every experienced, I am not doing justice to how pleased he was. He stated he has never experience this level of excellence in BA. We cannot wait to return again and say hi to our new friends Dan and Henry.

Very nice experience. I’ve done quite a few of the«closed door» restaurants in BsAs, but many of them lacked a personal touch that was heavily present at Casa SaltShaker. Food was fantastic and definitely strays from the typical steak and grilled vegetables menu that you’ll find everywhere else – it was a breath of fresh air to get beets after a month of heavy meat consumption :)

We had an amazing meal at Casa Saltshaker and met a great variety of dinner guests. The food and wine pairings worked perfectly and Dan and Henry were very good at making us all feel comfortable in their home. We cant wait to go back the next time we are in BA

This was my first experience with a closed door restaurant. Dan and Henry were very welcoming and have a beautiful home. I have no complaints about the entire evening. I was greeted with a welcome drink as us diners introduced ourselves. It just so happened that most of us were Americans, with 2 Canadians. So English was spoken the entire night. All of the dishes were delicious and had a wonderful, very professional presentation. I could tell that a lot of love went into preparing the dishes and that the ingredients used were of high quality. The wine pairings were perfect as well and fully complemented each dish. I will definitely come back when I’m in BA again!

I dined here a few years back, and not just once, but a couple of times, and for sure, it was one of my truly fine dining experiences when I was in BA. Dan and Henry were charming hosts, a beautiful layout as to the table and the whole ambiance of the room was so pleasant and relaxing. Location was more than easy to find and for the most part BA is easy to navigate and taxis always at your beck and call. I am a total non cilantro person and Dan was more than accommodating in regard to this, and a hint of cilantro never touched my lips. The food and wine pairings were spot on and with such an eclectic mix of guests, the conversation and all made for more than a delightful evening. And the evenings spent here were such a nice break from the steady meat menus in BA(and do not get me wrong as I loved the various and more than plentiful options on fantastic asado grilling), it was my disappointment mainly on the Italian options or restaurants as BA has such a multitude of Italian immigrants and linked cultural history that perhaps I was expecting more. I do not remember one Italian meal the whole time I was there that knocked my socks off. Now my travel focus is on Kenya and the Italian options there are so much better and more to my liking. And this is still more than surprising to me. On a trip to Argentina and Buenos Aires, I would most definitely put Casa Saltshaker on your options for a more than fantastic chance to experience some wonderful food as well as fellowship and your chance to garner tips and ideas on where to focus on various eating spots when in Argentina and Dan will always be more than helpful. For the record I come from a food service background of over 40 years at my Nordic destination ski resort called Maplelag in northern Minnesota where we serve family style meals all you can eat in the Basque boarding house style.

Lovely 5 course menu. Dan and Henry were excellent and very professional hosts! Fun, relaxed environment. Met many interesting people! There was a Greek couple who had flown in from China; a British guy and his Indo-American wife from Brooklyn; a Spanish couple(the woman had apparently ran a marathon in 7 continents), and a woman I bumped into who was from a neighboring town in New Jersey! Out of the 5 items served, I didn’t like one of the dishes(the main course), although all of the other goodies were very filling. Definitely recommend doing this on the day you arrive so you can get ideas of where to eat and what to do throughout your stay!

Wow is right. The menu was amazing, the service was amazing. I would fault only two things. Dan really needs an espresso machine or a nespresso machine. He should also Invest in a sommelier to do his wine pairings. However that would just be me being a wine snob. The more French wine the better. All our pairings were from Menoza and there was not enough white wine.

Wow! This was far and away the best meal we had in BA. We went to plenty of famous, super-upscale restaurants, and were mostly disappointed. But Casa SaltShaker was something else. Every one of the 5 courses was paired with a different wine from Mendoza, an amazing wine region. The dinner for ten was at a communal table and the conversation was as interesting as the food. One course in particular, a gazpacho soup made from watermelon was simply amazing. Dan was a charming and knowledgeable host and provided plenty of info without being the least bit intrusive. And booking the reservation couldn’t have been easier. He was really responsive and even made a concession for my dietary needs. And the price is really reasonable. If I lived in BA I’d be there every week!

This was the favorite of our many dining experiences in BA. Highly recommended for English speakers new to the city as Dan and his team are welcome hosts in their private home restaurant. Five courses with wine and coffee for a reasonable fee and very flavorful selections after a week of the somewhat bland Argentina fare. We didn’t know what to expect visiting a private residence but the quiet and professional service level, plating, etc was on part with the best of any tasting menus of NYC and other experiences I’ve had. It was a wonderful evening of food, wine, conversation, like a dinner party put together by one of your close friends. Truly a special time. The website explains the format and Dan is great about questions and chatting with guests. We asked for a recommendation for the next night, seeking a quality steak dinner at a parrilla. Dan made an excellent recommendation for nearby Melo, a wonderful neighborhood place that was our 2nd favorite meal of the trip. I look forward to our next trip to BA and another opportunity to sample Dan’s wonderful cooking. Make this a part of your plans but get reservations ahead of time!
